Your brakes are one of the most important parts of your vehicle. However, your brakes cannot function the right way without brake pads. The brake pads apply pressure to the rotor. The rotor is what brings the vehicle to a stop. Metallic, ceramic and organic are the three types of brake pads available. Metallic brake pads are made up of graphite, copper and steel. These brakes are inexpensive and durable. However, they can reduce the fuel economy.
Ceramic brake pads have copper fiber, bonding agents and ceramic fibers. These brake pads weigh less than the metal ones. They are also more durable than metallic pads. However, they can be expensive. Organic brake pads have resin, rubber, Kevlar and glass. They are better for the environment. The downside to using these types of brake pads is that they tend to break down quickly.
