What are tire rotations, when does your vehicle require the service, and what is it exactly? Automattox's factory-trained service department techs hear these questions daily. Here are their quick, simple answers.

Tire Rotations 101

During a tire rotation, service techs switch the positions of each tire on your vehicle. By switching tire positions, each tire receives more even exposure to wear. Unevenly worn, eroded tires are unstable and unsafe.

Types of Tire Rotations

The type of rotation your vehicle needs depends on its drivetrain: FWD, RWD, AWD, 4x4. The most common types of tire rotations are the:

  • Rearward cross
  • Forward cross
  • X pattern cross
  • Side-to-side
  • Front-to-back

We typically bundle tire rotations with other types of basic maintenance your vehicle requires in regular intervals.

When to Have Tires Rotated

We recommend having your tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, whether you're driving around Appomattox or on uneven terrain. It's the kind of basic service we can perform at the same time as an oil change, filter changes and windshield wiper blade/fluid replacement.
